Float: A Poetic and Minimalist Pendant Lamp

Creating a Delicate Centerpiece of Space

What sets Float apart from other pendant lamps is its unique design and construction. With its light and delicate appearance, Float creates a dynamic and gentle mood, filling its surroundings with beautiful and warm light. The shade floats between two cylindrical parts, creating a clearance that adds a beautiful tension to the design.

The construction of Float involves the use of aluminum sheet bending technology for the shade, while other components are made from turned and milled aluminum. The light source utilizes LED technology, and the diffuser is made from pmma. The aluminum parts are powder coated, adding to the lamp's sleek and modern aesthetic.

Float has a diameter of 1200mm, a height of 170mm, and weighs 11kg. With an electrical specification of 18.4W, 3000K, and RA86, this pendant lamp provides both functionality and visual appeal.

Installation of Float is hassle-free, as it comes fully assembled and hangs from the ceiling on two anchor points. The lamp is controlled by a standard switch or dimmer, allowing users to adjust the lighting according to their preferences.

The design process for Float began in late 2017 as part of an individual interior project. In 2019, it was put into serial production in Kaunas, Lithuania, making this elegant pendant lamp accessible to a wider audience.

During the design process, the Kinknot team faced various challenges. Originally made as a bespoke lamp, the assembly was done using welding techniques. However, when the decision was made to bring Float to a larger market, the question of feasibility arose. Despite this, the designers were determined to maintain the lamp's clean and monolithic aesthetics. They also took great care in integrating technology components into the lamp design itself, eliminating the need for additional boxes on ceilings for power sources. Every element of Float can be detached and replaced separately, ensuring its longevity and ease of maintenance.

Float is a delicate centerpiece of any space, designed to emphasize and enrich its surroundings without overwhelming them. Its solid and seamless appearance, combined with its warm and gentle light, creates a serene and inviting atmosphere. With its unique design and attention to detail, Float has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures category in 2020. This prestigious award acknowledges Float's outstanding creativity and ingenious design, contributing to the improvement of quality of life.
